Fight Against Evil: SMS Spam

Fight Against Evil writes:

“It’s the new way of stealing money from people. Unwillingly sign them up for a phone “service” like ring tones or the ability to receive spam text messages. For some things, all it takes is the cell phone number, and they can spam you. I only found out about this because ONCE A WEEK, my brother is getting charged $5.99 by something called funmobile on his sprint acount and we are still trying to find out how to cancel it. He’s never heard of the company, let alone even downloaded a single ringtone (which it is bad enough would cost any money at all) from the company. Meanwhile, the company records a record high in their services, gee what a surprise you slimy bastards, STEALING MONEY FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO STOP YOU AND LEAVING YOUR VIRTUAL BUSINESS CARD (with no contact information) TO MAKE IT FEEL LEGITIMIT IS EVIL AND MUST BE STOPED.”

Hi – I received a sms message from someone today saying that they saw my picture on some website. I have never filled out a profile on any website or posted a picture. The person left a hotmail address. I fear this is a scam. What should I do?

    I hate sms spam!!!!!
I didn’t even know that people could do that until now. It’s pretty irritating first off, and how are you supposed to know who to contact to get rid of this crap?!

I have a pre-payed phone and it sucks when all of your minutes go to spamming from viagra sites. I don’t even have a penis! Sooo, that information they sent me is completely useless.
What really makes me mad though is that I have been trying to contact verizon wireless about this and nobody.. NOBODY has e mailed me back or called me to help me. Even though, when I emailed them the site said ” your problems will be fixed within 24 hours.” Okay that was crap.
Then I tried to ” talk to a representative online right now!” buuut nobody was online to talk to me, but they ensured me that a rep. would contact me asap!
I’ve been waiting quite some time now. I even went to the websites, (that some of the texts contained in them) and told them to stop sending me sms spam or I would have to press legal charges.

So I mean, what more can I really do? Is there anybody out there that knows how to actually stop this? Thats all I want to know!
Most of the minutes I put on my phone, goes to those messages they send to me. Even at 2 or 3 or 4 in the morning I get texts.. and about 6 to 10 times a day! trust me, I would turn off my phone at night, but it’s the only alarm that I use to wake up.

    somebody heeeeelpppp pleaaaaaasee!!
