just received my phone bill with a charge for a monthly service fee of 14.95 for findyourdiet.com from enabill. never heard of either. cancelled directly with the company via email and called enabill and cancelled there as well. they claimed they had my name and that I had signed up for it which I hadn’t. The only thing I had signed up for in the last 90-120 days was for a demo disc with google pro (internet intiative) is there any connection?

  13. Angie Felts says:

I was also charged $14.95 on my Qwest bill for findyourdiet.com – a service I DID NOT sign up for. Anyone who has had this happen needs to:
    1. Call Qwest – dispute charges
    2. Call Enabill 1-888-331-7031 and request a full credit.
    3. Ask for the IP address where the charge originated – mine was in San Jose, CA and I live in Colorado… Also, ask them for the birth date that was used. My DOB listed was completely incorrect. DO NOT give them your actual DOB!!!
    4. Contact your local Better Business Bureau and let them know this happened.
FYI the Corporate company involved is:
    UnitedTel
    274 N. Goodman St
    Suite A302
    Rochester, NY 14607
    PH: 585-473-9210

  18. Linda says:

Have been told I must pay this fraudulent bill or possible collection actions. I never ordered it. Qwest billed. Filed w/FCC am filing with Att Gen and calling local police about fraud.

  19. Linda says:

Additional info. This is a monthly charge. If it is paid what is to stop them from charging in the future?

  20. Melanie says:

Found the findyourdiet.com charge this month. No way any of us signed up for it. Asked Nev Bell to remove charges. So far so good…. There is something wrong about companies tagging onto phone bill for their phony charges. how can att/nv bell/others allow this???

  21. Dave says:

How can a “company” ad a billing to my phone bill without authorization from me or the phone company? Is Qwest in on this?

  22. Tom Ciccateri says:

Qwest billed me $14.95 each in January and February for FINDYOURDIET.COM monthly fee for a service neither ordered nor received. Contacting Enabill revealed a completly different customer name on the service order and a different service and billing address. Neither of which stopped Enabill from passing along the charges via Qwest. Qwest denied any and all responsibility and directed me to dispute the charges with Enabill, although Qwest billed my credit card for the full amount. I’m now contacting the NM regulatory authorities since Qwest refused to stop such practices and will not let me “opt-out” from their billing “service” from 3rd parties.

  23. Missie says:

Charged $20 on behalf of Headwind Media. ??? I filled out the customer service inquiry listed above. We’ll see where that gets me.

  24. Neil in Washington says:

I got a $20 recurring charge on my phone bill (QWEST). Called Headwind and they insisted that I had signed up for a social networking service. I insisted that I had not, would not and will not, that I don’t Facebook, Twitter, or Link In or use any other SNS, and insisted that they cancel the account and refund my money.

The kind lady offered me 1 month free! I politely argued until she also issued a refund. Next call…QWEST. After that, possibly the Attorney General.

  25. ray says:

charge $20.00 on phone bill from quest. extra billing from headwind no glue who this was. called quest said this a practice called cramming. from third party billing company. what a bunch of crooks.

  26. CLAUDIA GRAY says:

Just got a phone bill that included $20 charge for CMI exclusive svc fee.It is a social networking site! I am a 60 + yr old recluse! CMI/Headwind Media, cancelled my “subscription” but say I’m on the hook for this bogus charge! Outrageous!

  27. Rhonda says:

I was also charged $20 on my bill from Headwind on my Verizon bill. You should call and find out what email address and IP address was used to “sign” you up. They supplied me with this information and it is very shady.

  28. Rhonda says:

Sorry, one more thing, please let me know the IP address so I can compare it to the one they gave me. Thanks!

  29. Katie says:

Looks like I’m not alone. I refuse to pay this 20.00 bill referred as headwind media phone number doesnt work most time 1-888-478-6162. From enabill never ordered it not paying for it either. Will sure first. To bad theres dishonest people out there. I called quest and they gave me this number which gives a recording then it cuts off then you call again and again and it says number not available what is that??

  30. Rhonda says:

Katie– try this number, it’s for HBS Billing 800-811-4535. I was able to get thru on that one.

  31. Linda says:

Just opened my phone bill to find the $14.95 monthly charge which I did not authorize! I called the phone company and they transferred me to UnitedTel. The person I spoke to said that he did not see an open account for us…then why was I charged?? I continued to argue with him until he said that he would “cancel” MY subscription. Then I asked if I would also be credited for the $14.95. He said yes. So he went from saying that I did not have an account to cancelling and refunding my money. I called the phone company back and they noted my account to watch for the credit and also offered to put a block on my account to any third party billing.

  32. Victoria says:

I got my Qwest bill this afternoon and saw a $20 fee for Headwind Media. I called the number and was told that it is a social networking site. I told the ”customer service” rep that I wanted it cancelled and the $20 fee reversed. She said she could offer me 1 month free service but could not refund the fee. I told the lady for the third time that I had not registered for this service and that I wanted my “subscription” canceled. She was glad to cancel but insisted that I cannot get the charge reversed. I asked to speak to her supervisor so she transferred me. When “Alex” got on the phone he basically told me that it had been verified 3 times and I had signed up for this and would therefore not be able to refund the fee. I then asked for contact information so that my attorney could look into this for me and resolve the problem. Funny how all of a sudden the “subscription” was cancelled and my charge is reversed. My next step is to contact Qwest. How many unsuspecting people, that don’t really look over their charges, are paying this fee each and every month? It seems that Qwest could do more to protect their customers. Buyers beware.

  33. Stephanie Morris says:

I also received a $20 charged from Headwind Media on my Att phone bill. I called, they agreed to cancel the bogus subscription, but that I would have to pay the bill to ATT and in 2 to 3 months I would receive a credit of $20 on my phone bill. I called the 3rd party billing service (HBS) to complain and also ATT. The ATT representative actually said to me “Well if they have the last four digits of your SS#, then we can bill you for this” But then she did say I could request that 3Rd party billing be blocked from my account, which I then requested. I am submitting a complaint to the NC Attorney General with a copy for this bill. I am also contacting the four Charlotte area news stations to inform them about this scam.

  34. Jan says:

I found a $20 charge on my latest Quest phone bill from Headwind Media that showed a social networking site ‘CMI Profiles’ had been subscribed to for a 3 month deal at $20/month. We did not sign up for this. Data from CMI showed it was created on 10/26 when were were on vacation on the other side of the state. I am researching the IP address with the IP address owner (SAVVIS – an internet provider). The account had my name, my phone number, and an ‘old’ Yahoo email account that has not been used in over 3 years that once belonged to my 16 yr old daughter. I called and got the service stopped, the $20 credited to my phone bill, then called Qwest to have all third party billing blocked. I will be eager to see where this IP address is…if it’s where our hotel was, then I’ll be talking to the hotel to figure out how this happened!

  35. Rhonda says:

Can you tell me what IP address you have? I was curious if it’s the same one I have. I researched it to an electric company in Norristown, PA. Thank you.

  36. Katie says:

Rhonda, Where is the ip address located on the bill? I wont give out mine on here.

  37. Katie says:

I have written to Better Business Bureau and our Attorney General. I am NOT paying this $20.00 to a fraud company. Quest states right on there bill that this charge has no reflection towards them nor will they turn you off because of it.

  38. Katie says:

Rhonda, I will call on monday just to see what they say. I will let you know. Thank you!

  39. Katie says:

I did a look up on a email I received from them and this is what I got

    earch Results for “jesse@headwindmedia.com”

  40. Rhonda says:

Hello Katie! Thank you for your responses. HBS Billing told me the IP address over the phone that they said was used to “sign me up” for this so called website. It was 195.112.173.32.

  41. Katie says:

This is strange because on my enabill page there is no ip address anywhere by my phone number on that bill page .

  42. Katie says:

Well…. I called the number 800-811-4535 and they were going by a old email address that was a friend of my husband and I told them i was the only living here and they took it off immidently. I would advise everyone to get a third party billing block on there phone! Thank you Rhonda for all your help :)

  43. Barbara says:

Found a $20 charge on my AT&T bill for Headwind Media that showed a social networking site ‘CMI Profiles’ had been subscribed to for a 3 month deal at $20/month. According to them my daughter, who has been in Vet School for the last 4 years signed-up. She barely has time to blink, much less join a social net-working site. They claimed it had been verified three times. I asked for the address. They gave me an e-mail address that had not been used in over eleven years. They said that this was canceled, but I have to pay this month or hurt my credit. If I don’t see a credit next month there will be problems! Everyone needs to check their phone bill carefully. It should be against the law to charge a phone bill with out permission!

  44. Rick says:

I found a $20/month charge on my AT&T bill on 2 Dec from Headwind Media-CMI. I had no idea of who or what they were. When calling the contact number, I was greeted by a recording that said I had given personal information to authorize the billing of this service. When I spoke with a person, the only personal information they had was an AOL e-mail address that had not been active or funded for 7 years. AT&T Said they will stop the payment and prevent 3rd party billing from this point forward. I suspect this scam is big and national. I have reported this incident to the FTC. You can do the same at 1-877-382-4357.

  45. Terry McManigal says:

We were charged $20.00 for these services on our Qwest phone bill. I think they are outrageous, and how can they get our information off the internet. Kinda scarey if you asked me.

  46. HLPayne says:

billed through qwest. NEVER requested any service. Will sue any party involved if able and will not pay any one any amount. Obvious fraud and shameful that any company allows itself to be involved. WE didn’t know is not a defense.

  47. Jenn T. says:

Just rcvd a charge for $20.00 from enabill (never heard of before now)on my qwest bill. Had ENabill cancel my “membership” but the csr said I was responsible for the original $20. After refusing to pay it, was then told the original charge would be taken off in the next 2 billing cycles. Had to make a request through qwest to reject ENabill from future billing. Qwest claims this is due to government regulation laws since they are a public utility company. This is outrageous!!!

  48. Anne Holmes says:

I was charged $20 for CMI which I never signed up for. IP #206-182-218.92. CALL YOUR PHONE COMPANY AND GET 3RD PARTY BILLING BLOCKED – QWEST WILL DO IT.

  49. CSR says:

I started working at a call centre that was contracted out by one of these third party billing companies. All I get are calls from people who did not sign up for a service but were billed. The client (the third party billing company) wants us to try to refuse to refund the first months bill saying that there was a valid registration even when it blatantly was not 100% of the time(I personally refund everyone without hesitation). The company makes it very easy to make a “valid” registration. All you need is some bare minimal information and phone number and the bill is charge monthly to your phone bill. I’ve noticed a lot of patterns such as outdated email addresses or old addresses. Some people have several different charges like this on each bill, from all different companies. I’ve heard of charges for the total of $20, $35.95 and $8.95. Sometimes these charges are all on one bill. It makes me sick. I take probably 50 calls a day, every one for the same thing. I’ve been working there less than a week and will definitely not be there next week. I have been giving out refunds to every individual I speak with and help them best I can but it is just not right. Also, it is such a lame service that I am embarrassed when I have to tell them what they are being charged for. People are confused and afraid that someone has their personal information. From my end, it is totally a scam that is legal enough for now to get away with. If this happens to you contact Better Business Bureau immediately.

  50. csan says:

Enabill attempted to bill $20/mo on my Qwest account. I caught it before it was due and had the Enabill charge deleted. However it appears that I have to pay a fee to Qwest to block 3rd party charging?!? To heck with that. I will just remain vigilant about checking all my monthly bills. I have no idea how Enabill got onto my account. I do NO online shopping and can’t think of an occasion where I provided info that may have been phishing. Apparantly Enabill has been scamming for a long time. What are we paying the Feds for? Why isn’t Enabill shut down/fined heavily/company officers in jail?!?

  51. HBS Billing Services says:

I was billed by Headwind Media, INC through HBS Billing Services on my Verizon Phone bill. HBS told me the services I was being charged for were for Caller ID and Voice Mail which I already have through Verizon. Verizon has removed the charge and Blocked 3rd party billing. Further investigation through the National BBB, show that HBS Billing Services are through BSG Clearing Solutions with additional names of: Enhanced Billing Services,ACI Billing,Billing Concepts,ESBI,& Zero Plus Dialing. The address and phone# for the company is:7411 John Smith Drive, #1500,San Antonio, TX 78229.(210-949-7000)HBS states that they cannot take charges off your bill for 3 billing cycles.

  52. Diane Summers says:

Good morning, I also am very frustrated over these phony billings. I help customers everyday because I work for a very large telecommunications company it is my responsibility to help customers fight the fight. Write your Better Business bureau, the FCC, Congressman and keep complaining. These charges are being investigated by the government. The reason that they get billed is because we are regulated by the FCC we must pass 3rd party billing on to our customers. This is very frustrating for us as well. Third party billing block does not always prevent the charges either.

  53. Jane Holifield says:

I was charged $20.00 on my phone bill by Headwind Media, Inc. This was an unauthorized charge. When I contacted Headwind, they told me it would take 2 to 3 months for this charge to be stopped. However, they gave me a confirmation number and told me “Corporate” would be calling me within 24 hours. Five days later and I still have not heard from “Corporate”. I called my telephone provider and gave them the confirmation # and was assured it would be removed from my bill. They lied because it was drafted from my account. I have contacted the Public Service Commission and the Attorney General’s office, and I will keep on until something is done.

  54. Kya says:

I was charged $20.00 on my phone bill by Headwind Media. I had no idea who these people were & had never heard of them until today. My phone company said it was for a website called “CMI”, some social networking site. I’ve NEVER heard of this! The company says we Have to pay the initial $20. I decided to research this company/website. This is absolutely NOT something I signed up for! I can’t believe how many people have already been affected by this scam…this is a shame that its made so easy for people to do this and that we are having to pay! What’s wrong with people today? Why aren’t phone companies paying attention, aren’t they supposed to get authorization from us Before accepting a 3rd party biller??

  55. Lawrence says:

My Verizon home phone bill had a $20 bill from HSB Billing services div. of Headwind media, Inc. I called & was promissed a $20 credit. The charge was allegedly made by my son, but the IP address of the computer was in Riverside, NJ – 68.82.136.129. We are in PA. I am calling Verizon to have a block put on the account.

  56. Jim says:

Centurylink customer, charged $20 by CMI/Headwind. Called CMI and was told my daughter (by name)signed up on line. Not. We have dial-up and downloads are too slow for this type of service. (No jokes please, we live 1/4 mile off the closest paved road and won’t pay for satellite service) We got a refund entered and a confirmation number. We’ll see… Am calling BBB, Attorney General for NC and US. Phone service provider as the vehicle for these fraudulent charges is IMHO complicit in this fraud. If it come to a suit, Centrylink WILL be named a co-litigant.

  57. Wendy K Guentner says:

We were billed $20. by Quest for a service by Headwind Media. I have no idea who these people are, yet they had all my information. Turns out they offer a service of ‘chatting with celebrities’ for Pete’s sake! Cancelled the so called service and now have to wait to see if Quest will refund our $20. I will be sending a letter of complaint to my Congressman and Senators to make this type of transaction illegal

  58. Jeff says:

Was charged 20.00 from a 3rd party. Qwest said they can not control that because they would be considered a monopoly.Found out it was cmi chatting with the stars called Enabill 1-888-331-7031 They had all my info except they gave me the wrong b-day. Said it would take 2 to 3 billing cycles BS i called qwest they were going to block any billing from them. Hopefully it works.

  59. Jorjean Miller says:

Same as eveyone else. I will be reporting this the better business bureu. Never signed up, never gave permission. Did not hear of this until I opened my phone bill

  60. Andre T says:

Just received my AT&T bill with this bogus charge. I could care less about updated info on celebrities. They told me they could not credit the full amount, but shortly changed their tune. The info they had for 3-rd party verification was also all incorrect. They obviously have some program that searches names and phone numbers with DSL plans and then makes up the remaining info. Just hoping someone does not look at their bill. Will now block 3-rd party billing with AT&T.

  61. Joseph says:

I just wenbt to pay my Verizon bill and found as the other have that I had been charged $20.00 for a service I had not requested. I contacted the web site owner and was told that they would cancel the subscription but I insisted on knowing from where or how I supposed isgned up for this unwnated subscrition to cmiprofiles.com. I was given an ip address from where the subscription was ordered and the ip address is registered to Amazon.com. I caontcated amazon.com and advised them of this issue and that I would be turning this over to the states attorney general in the morning on the for fraud and attempted Identity theft. I intend to pursue this with Amazon and this web site with theh AG’s here in PA as well as OH and CA. I have also advised Verizon not to accept 3 party billings to my phone number.

  62. Doris Lentine says:

same thing happened to me this week! $20 charged to Verizon. Called the “HBS” bulling number and they tried to get MORE personal info out of me to cancel
    this is a scam

  63. Ed Praschak says:

Was charged $20 by Headwind Media Inc CMI on our Verizon bill. Never heard of Headwind. Called them to complain. They said name on Headwind account was my wife’s. She never signed up for anything of this nature. The guy said it was done either thru their website, Facebook, or Twitter. She’s never been to this company’s web site or to Twitter. Occasionally goes to Facebook but has NEVER signed up for Headwind Media. WHAT A SCAM!

  64. Ed Praschak says:

Forgot to mention this CMI thing was cancelled by the man I talked to on the phone.

  65. Ken Perry says:

i too have recieved my qwest bill today and found 20.00 charges for monthly services for headwind media cmi and enabill and i called them about it and told them it is imposible since i do not care about talking to stars or any famous interests online or what ever i refused outright to pay and said this is a lie sort of a massive scam on me and others everywhere it has been happening with qwest and myself for over 3 months with 3 different places as soon as one is fixed another one appears on my qwest bill and i have stopped each one on the phone but keep getting billed for some other thing each month i play online gaming and facebook and ready email otherwise i dont surf and had to idea who or what they were until today day after christmas i am and have reported it and am sending a letter to bbb and other places to..

  66. Janet says:

Received a bogus charge on my qwest bill $20 from Enabill a celebrate profile I am in my 40s I have never heard of such a thing let alone be seeking out celebrates to profile this is a SCAM a RIP off and when you attempt to call the number to get it corrected no one answers SO Qwest is going to be hearing from me tomorrow or Ill just disconnect the damn phone Im not paying it RIP OFF SCAMMERS

  67. Shane says:

Same story – $20 charge from Enabill on my Qwest bill. Authorized by my 13 year old daughter. The e-mail Enabill had on file has been inactive for years. Total scam. I’ve been on the phone for 1/2 hour trying to clear this up! Qwest even charged me $4 to change the payment amount. Time to find another phone service provider!

  68. Dennis says:

Headwind Media got me this month. Charged $20 to my CenturyLink bill. I called them, and they had all of my information. They had my SSN. I have only used my SSN online with the IRS, and SSN. They did cancel the billing, but I don’t trust them. I put a block on third party billing. Hopefully, that will stop any future hits.

  69. Thomas Grillo says:

I was billed for $20 from Headwind Media on my phone bill. I’ve engaged 3rd party block, and had Headwind Media cancel whatever that account was. This happened on Nov 30, 2009. Whoever did this used my e-mail adress and physical adress info to fraudulently activate this bogus account in my name.

  70. Thomas Grillo says:

Oh, I’m on AT&T by the way.

  71. John Garland says:

I have Verizon and got biiled same as above. $20 by headwind media. I called Verizon, they said they would credit the $20 on next bill and put a block on headwind media. They gave the the 888 number to call and cancel account (the one I didn’t create). We’ll see what happens

  72. Rich says:

Same experience as so many people above have mentioned — a mysterious $20.00 charge on my monthly phone bill for Headwind Media, passed along by Hold Billing Service.

Everyone — Two important steps to take to protect yourself and fight these scumbags:

    1. Tell your local phone company to put a “third party bill block” on your account so that scammers like Headwind Media cannot pass along such charges via your monthly phone bill.

    2. File a complaint on-line with the Federal Trade Commission (https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/)

  73. Lynne Ippolitto says:

Yesterday I signed up for a movie downloading service. While waiting for their confirmation e-mail which would give me the passwords I needed to access the site. I got an e-mail from CMI and thought that was them and so i signed onto the site. As you know, it’s a social site and I read that they would be charging me 20 a month for this. Needles to say, I hit the ceiling and sent them back an e-mail. This morning I decided to see if there was anything on the web about them, which brings me to you site here. It was very helpful and I called the number someone listed on it, 1.888.478.6162 and spoke to Lester and he was very nice and said I’ll take care of that and we’ll cancel it for you. He did want some info from me and I just laughed at him. Anyway, he says he cancelled it, gave me a confirmation # and e-mailed me a confirmation. I guess I will have to wait and see if it is really cleared up. I’m wondering if anyone here ordered something online and then received this garbage, that’s what happened to me.

  74. Linda in NJ says:

Same as above – charge for $20 from Headwind Media on my Verizon bill, dated 12/3. The charge is tagged as “Cmi Xclusivemo Fee.” I have no clue what this is. Verizon is refunding, and has blocked future charges, but the problem is I need to “cancel” with Headwind directly, and I have been on hold for an hour with them. I have used the time to file an on-line FCC complaint alleging fraud. The beautiful thing is that this happened a few months ago, with a different company, and Verizon supposedly blocked my account at that time – apparently, it doesn’t work all the time.

  75. Lisa says:

I finally got through to Headwind Media after sitting on hold for 30 min. I told them to remove the charge and cancel the account and when they tried to say that my 4 yr old daughter authorized the account, I laughed in their face. I said “she’s 4 and doesn’t even use the computer, so I guess I have a pretty good lawsuit for slamming huh?”, they quickly said they would refund my $20 in 2-3 billing cycles and cancel the account. I’m not planning on paying that portion of the bill with At&t. I also blocked 3rd party billing with At&t.

  76. Kathy says:

$20 charge on my Qwest bill for Headwind Media. 45 minutes on hold to dispute this. They canceled the account but said I would have to pay the initial $20. I said I would not pay it and they said they would waive it and the process would take 2 to 3 months.

I had absolutely NO IDEA that a 3rd party could bill something to my phone line. That’s outrageous! I filed a complaint with the FTC and will be calling Qwest about blocking 3rd party billing.

  77. Holly Lenz says:

I got charged this month on my Qwest bill. ON hold waiting now.

  78. Emily says:

I just got my ATT bill and found an unauthorized $20 charge from Headwind Media for their CMI Exclusive site. I had never heard of them and had to use a search engine to locate their site. I plan to call ATT direct and ask them to reverse the charge, but I wish I didn’t have to be bothered!

  79. jessica colpitt says:

Didn’t sign up for this cramp need to find away to get this canceled the # on my phone bill I have called for three days sitting on the phone for ever I have call 1888-478-6162 noone answers my phone carrier told me I have to call 1888-331-7031 still noone answers I refuse to pay for a service I didn’t ask for and are not recieveing

  80. Orrin Nearhoof says:

We received our Quest bill and I saw the added $20.00 through Headwind Media. Called, waited 20 minutes on hold, and finally, after much discussion, was informeed that the $20.00 would be refunded on my NEXT bill. I will check our billing. It seems we cannot trust any company today to protect our accounts.

  81. wanda reed says:

I too have a charge on my bill for 20 dollars. .No one in my house signed up for this or authorized it! I also have verizon and they are not to allow any billing on phone bill. This is a scam and just got some satifaction when I told them I talked to fcc then they refunded my 2o dollars. Lets just wait and see

  82. kim perry says:

i agree with kathy jan.5th. same issue, did get a credit for charges, but,was very insistent to know about verifying of infor. given which was false, and they still took the registeration. I am going to go to the bbb and State Attorney for Fla. for the company!! want to help email me.

  83. Kathy says:

Followup: Qwest said there are over 500 companies that can bill services to a person’s telephone bill. Citing something to do with government regulations, the rep said they cannot block all of those companies at one time even if requested by the customer. They can only block them one at a time. I was disappointed, to say the least.

  84. Linda in NJ says:

Kathy: Verizon told me the same thing. Federal regulations require them to allow any other communications provider *who has all my correct information* to put charges on my bill. I am sure there was a reason for this back in the day, but of course now it’s just allowing fraud!

  85. Kathy says:

One thing about this Headwind Media that I do not understand is that as far as I know, their “service” is a social networking site, and has NOTHING to do with telephone service. It makes no sense at all that they should be able to bill through telephone companies.

Also, they obviously did not require the party who signed up using our information to “opt-in”. The e-mail address they had for us was a few characters off of an address our daughter has. She tried to get that address years ago but it was taken so she had to add some additional characters. Even free newsletters say something to the effect of “if you signed up for this service, click here otherwise ignore this.”

  86. Shane says:

I got the same “Headwind Media” charge as all of you did on my bill in December. I called, they said they would cancel it and refund my money. On my next bill they refunded me my $20 but charged me again for December. I called again today and they said they would refund me again and cancel it for good this time. I guess I’ll wait and see.

It sounds like someone may be using old or canceled email adresses in order to make these charges. They use what info they have about you and make up the rest. It is amazing that companies will actually charge you when the info is not even correct!

  87. bill sellers says:

    I did not authorized
    tis and I do not want anything added to my phone bill {every}

  88. tess says:

I just got my verizon bill and found out an unauthorize $20.00 charge from headwind media inc.
I e-mail verizon regarding this problem until now I don’t receive any response from them, Do I have a right not to pay the $20.00?

  89. Lois says:

Wa State- billed $20 by Qwest/Enabill for Headwind Media. I will followup as eveyone here has said to and I am also filing complaints to Delaware, Florida, and Wa State Attorney Generals. This is blatant Fraud and needs to be stopped!

  90. Aaron says:

I work for Qwest. By a congressional act passed 25 years ago, any third party company may place ANY charges on your phone bill, and Qwest cannot do anything about it. The best way to remove it is to call us and dispute the charges, Qwest policy is to issue a credit and refer any callers to the company that originated the charges.

  91. Linda in NJ says:

    @Aaron:
Thanks! Do you happen to know the name of the law, or its reference number? I am writing to my congressman to try to get it changed and it would be helpful if I could reference it.

  92. frustrated in VA says:

Got a charge of $20 on my verizon from Headwind Media Inc. who billed for CMI exclusive services, a social networking site. An old e-mail address which is defunct since last 3 years has been used with wrong date of birth. They say that the information is verified, but how? Why don’t they call to verify it or leave a voice mail to call back with a pin code. Of course they wouldn’t do that because they are the one entering these bogus charges on un-suspecting consumer.
They said that they would roll-back the charge. Verizon will take one month to put the lock to prevent 3rd party charge. It has happened twice now from two different companies. I think that the same company is involved with different names.
It must qualify for a class action case.

  93. Pat says:

Not only did CMI stick me with a $20 charge, but I also got $13.62 charge from IDDS and $12.95 from ID Lifeguard. Verizon did contact all parties and they offered credit on my “NEXT” VERIZON BILL! So I have to pay full amount to avoid a late payment to VERIZON!! Class action- I’m in…..

  94. PJ Lee says:

Enbilll charged me 3 times on qwest bills reprsentative said it was because my telephone # was one facebook and myspace websites…..that is balony no goods or services were given for the charges… they gave me a credit today we will see if that is the case.

  95. Laura in Sea says:

We just got our Verizon Bill and there was a $40.00 charge on it from Enabill. I know nothing about them. I telephoned and after much discussion they agreed to remove the charge. It’s a ripoff.

  96. Rich says:

    #88 – Tess

You DO NOT have to pay this disputed amount when you pay Verizon. Call Verizon customer service and tell them you are disputing this charge. You do, of course, have to pay your legitimate phone bill (minus that charge). See my post #72 about telling Verizon to put a “third party bill” block put on your account to stop all such third-party charges in the future. Also check the FTC address I listed for filing a complaint electronically.

    Good luck.

  97. Claudia says:

Received a $20 charge on my Verizon bill for New Service Provider. I called the number listed for billing questions,1-888-478-6162 Billing on behalf of Headwind Media, Inc. The representative I talked to at Cmi explained the $20 charge was cancelled the next day and I would receive a credit on my next month’s Verizon bill. The strange thing is the phone number that was charged is exclusively used as a fax line. I am more upset with Verizon to allow such bogus charges. How many others are going to be victims of this SCAM. I think if enough people complain to Verizon maybe they will not allow any third party billing.

  98. Cheryl Tennant says:

Just received my AT&T bill and a $20 charge was on there from Headwind Media. I called immediately and they said they would remove it. But I’ll call AT&T in 2 days to see if it shows up…don’t trust them to process it right. And I also have a 3rd party block on my AT&T line. So, how does this get stopped?

  99. Russell Oden says:

Problem with Headwind Media resolved. contract phone company,FCC,BBB,Enabill,Head wind media and file complaint.
request closure of account with Head-wind.Have third partyblock put on phone. Contact State
    AG ofice concerning
the act of “Slamming”by third parties.
Hope this works for You. Russ

  100. Rich says:

A follow-up to my post #72. I finally got through to CMI Exclusive today, and I have to say their customer service rep was very apologetic and helpful — he cancelled the service that had been fraudulently charged to my Verizon account, gave me a credit for the two months that had already been charged, and put a block on my phone number for any future such charges.

It turns out that the E-mail address given to CMI by whoever slammed me was an old one that I had canceled a year ago and no longer used. This was a Starpower account in Virginia; has anybody else slammed by CMI had an old Starpower account?

The CMI rep also gave me the IP address of the computer used to sign me up:

    195.214.56.143

Maybe one of you reading this who has more technical expertise than me can follow up this lead and see what you find? I put the number into Google, and the only thing I think I found out about it is that it may be an IP address in Germany.

  101. Michael says:

Same story here. Headwind said i signed up in Dec 09, but I did not. I called and finally got a service rep to issue a full refund of current charges and future charges. The customer no service canceled the agreement- but i’m pretty sure they will try again. Calling ATT to cancel 3rd party billing.

  102. Rhonda says:

Rich–The IP address I was given was 195.112.173.32. I’m wondering where they’re coming up with the IP addresses and the emails. The email address they gave me was partially correct. Has anyone purchased anything on ebay or amazon around the time? I can’t figure out where they are getting the info.

  103. elysa moulding says:

This is the second time this charge has been put on our bill. Quest took it of the bill last time and said they would block the charge, but here it is again. Isn’t the Public Service Commission supposed to protect us? oh wait, that’s right they protect the deep pockets.

  104. Finn says:

Just got my AT&T bill and noticed the $20 charge on the back page. I called Headwind (their number is on the bill) today (Saturday)- and a nice rep in Newfoundland cancelled the service and promised a $20 credit on my next bill. I tried to find out how they got the signup info, I think they may have siphoned my info from some other site where I may have signed up for something else. I wonder if they just made up an IP address because it didn’t match mine.

  105. Rich says:

    #102 – Rhonda:

I ran in Google the IP address you were given. This German Website which appears to locate where an IP address of a computer is physically located appears to put your slammer in the Philadelphia region, Norristown PA to be precise. You can even zoom in to the approximate street location.

    http://www.utrace.de/ip-adresse/195.112.173.32

The IP address used in my own case appears to be physically located northeast of Wichita, Kansas.

The German Website that provided this information is http://www.utrace.de

  106. Tonya says:

Wow…how can this happen? Just got my Qwest bill and guess what…Headwind Media charge for $20. I called the number provided and they told me they would credit me the charge. I also emailed Qwest at Qwest.com to get answers on how this could happen. I have read all these posts and it is so frustrating at how long this has been going on and yet still it continues.

  107. Brent Bailey says:

I was charge $20 from Headwind Media and I, too, did no authorize that company to provide a service and charge to me! I would appreciate crediting me back that charge!

  108. Seth says:

I also got a $20 charge on my Qwest phone bill from the third-party “Enabill”. I typed Enabill into Google and the top results were for complaint sites rather than any official Enabill site–sketchy to say the least.

I first called Qwest but was directed to call Enabill about it. I called the toll-free 888 number at the top of the Enabill insert from my phone bill. After having to listen to hold music for a good ten minutes, I was finally able to talk to a lady who explained to me what the charge on my phone bill was about. Somehow my phone number and business e-mail address were used to sign me up for a subscription to a website for following celebrities. The lady explained that anybody who had my e-mail and phone number could have signed me up for this and seemed to know before I said much of anything that I was calling to get this “subscription” cancelled and the charge removed from the phone bill, which she pleasantly did for me and said, “Have a nice day.”

After going to the website it looked to me like a fake site that serves as a front for some sort of clever legal scam. That’s my uneducated guess.

Anyway, the bottom line: ****IF YOU GET A CHARGE FROM ENABILL, YOU CAN CALL THEM TO CANCEL THEIR SERVICES AND THEIR CHARGE ON YOUR PHONE BILL.**** Hope this message prevents someone else from wasting as much time on this as I did.

  109. Deb Riha says:

I just received a $20 charge from Headwind Media on my Qwest bill. Like the rest f the posters-I have never heard of the company, and I have no interest in social networking with movie stars. They said that they could close my so called account, but I would have to pay the $20. They said it was a valid registration. I asked for proof of registration and they had no comeback. I threatened contacting my attorney, and then they supposedly credited my telephone account for $20, which should be noted on my next bill. Tomorrow I will call Qwest and complain about this 3rd party BS.

  110. tami says:

I was billed $20.00 by Qwest for a service by Headwind Media. I have no idea what this company is yet they had all my information. I called on 12/18 first Qwest and they wouldn’t really budge. I then call the company in FLorida and the girl that was reading off a script asked for my address and I would not give it to her. She said my children or grandchildren must have authorized it. Funny thing is I have none. WHat a Flippin’ bunch of scam artists. They should be punished. I kept telling Qwest they should put a stop to it and the girl I dealt with didn’t seem to care one bit. Go ahead and google Enabill. They are scum of the earth. Look how many of us have been scammed yet no one does anything about it.

  111. Don Hanson says:

did not sign up for this nor authorized such a thing

  112. Rhonda says:

The thing that bothers me about all of this is this happened for me on October 26th. I still have not received the credit I was promised through HeadWind Media. However, Verizon is supposedly crediting me. Will Verizon go after them for the money or do they get to keep the $20. What a scam and racket!

  113. Anonymous says:

Just to let you folks know, I work for Qwest Communications and would like to let you know that these bogus 3rd Party Billings have nothing to do with us, we just recieve the charges and put them on the bill when you call in and complain to a CSR you are just making someone having a bad day and are accomplishing nothing. Even when we can get the charges off of your Qwest bill we aren’t crediting these charges we are doing just as it states….removing them from your Qwest bill. Unless you take the initiative to call these companies and demand a refund there is little to nothing we can do to assist in getting that off.

  114. Rich says:

    #113

So why don’t you suggest to your managers at Qwest that the company pro-actively offer all its customers the chance to institute a blanket third-party bill block on their Qwest account
to block the likes of such scammers like CMI, rather than force your company to have to resolve this problem on a case by case basis? That’s good customer service and good business practice at the same time. Rather, it sounds like Qwest is pulling a Pontius Pilate and washing its hands of all responsibility.

I’m not criticzing you personally, but rather the apparent corporate mindset at Qwest that appears to treat its customers as an annoyance if they get slammed by the likes of CMI Media and turn to Qwest for help in resolving a legitimate complaint.

  115. Deb says:

Qwest was really nice to me.
They blocked any 3rd party billing at no cost to me. And, they noted my complaint and said that they would make sure my account was credited for $20 if CMI neglects to act on my credit, like they said.

  116. Judy Moran says:

Received a 20$ charge on my AT&T bill for Headwind Media, Inc., billed by HOLD Billing Services (1-800-879-4653) I phoned Headwind Media, Inc. @1-888-478-6162 & inquired re: the charge. They used an old IP address I haven’t had in years! I was told they would block 3rd party calls, etc., but I’m still going to pursue this further! I didn’t authorize this & have never heard of them before!

  117. susan says:

I did not authorize this company to debit my verizon phone bill. They said I signed up for it. I never did. When I mentioned that I was a victim of identity theft and would contact my attorney to resolve this issue, they offered to cancel the account and refund me the $20 charge on my phone bill.

  118. Laurie says:

Headwind Media Inc. posted a bogus 20.00 charge to our phone bill…said my daughter (an adult at college) signed up. She did not. Because of all of the previous postings, I told them I was contacting my lawyer and that the internet was riddled with complaints against Headwind defining their scam. She removed the charge and canceled the account.

  119. Donna says:

My *father* was charged by Headwind Media for $20. I called the company and they spewed the same garbage. They didn’t want to cancel the account and said that he signed up. Rightttttttt…… Told them I was ready to join in a class-action suit and that even their website spoke of vulnerable persons and minors. Damn scammers! They say they are removing the charge within 1-2 billing cycles. My father lives on SS so this is terrible for him.

  120. Mike says:

$20 charge appeared on my phone bill. I called & cancelled but they were unwilling to remove charge. I plan to call again.

$20.00 charge on my AT & T bill..called Headwind and they canceled the acct and gave me a confirmation number–I will definitely keep an eye on the bill from now on!

  123. Dawn Carlson says:

I had the same as most people here… $20 charge on Qwest bill from Headwind. Called Qwest who put me through to Headwind’s foreign sounding person who said they would cancel service which I never heard of or ordered. Gave me confirmation number. PLEASE CHECK YOUR PHONE BILL!!

  124. Linda in NJ says:

Filed a complaint with the FCC and got a letter back saying the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) is the right resource. I encourage everyone to file an on-line complaint – if the FTC hears it enough, maybe they’ll take action. Go to http://www.ftccomplaintassist.gov to file.

  125. Dawn Carlson says:

I called Qwest again today to put a cancellation on any future third party charges. Their attitude toward this was pretty much “this happens sometimes”. This is hundreds of people just here and you can’t tell me they haven’t had calls before. I will be checking each and every bill very thoroughly and encourage everyone to do the same.

  126. Audrey Larson says:

I’ve been charged $20 repeatedly on my Qwest bill for “EnaBill/Headwind Media/CMI Exclusive monthly service fee.” I never authorized any such service, never used it, and have no idea what it is. They are committing fraud. I hope and pray the Attorney General, BBB and FCC will go after these criminals!

  127. Linda in NJ says:

By the way, filing a complaint takes 5 or 10 minutes at the most, depending how much time you spend describing what happened. Please take a few minutes and file an on-line complaint at http://www.ftccomplaintassist.gov. 128. Rich says:

Linda in NJ (#127) gives excellent advice — the only way to put a stop to these sleazebags like Headwind Media is for enough annoyed consumers to innundate the FTC with complaints. I filed one when I got the bogus charge, and it indeed takes all of five minutes to do. So…anyone reading this who has been screwed by Headwind Media/CMI, PLEASE file a complaint with the FTC. Thanks.

  130. Daniel says:

Charged $20 (Qwest bill) They said my wife signed up for it. She did not. Called them and they said it was a 3month contract. We would never use this kind of service or subscribe for it. Looks like a SCAM!!!

  131. Lisa says:

Hey folks, Enabill is a division of BSG Clearing. They are a billing agency. They do not originate charges; those come from vendors like Headwind Media. It is like yelling at the UPS guy for delivering a package you didn’t order. Call the vendor first and if you don’t get relief, THEN call the billing agency. They can remove the charge. Keep in mind they require lots of info before a charge can be processed – so something must be wrong on Headwind’s end. Call them; if you don’t get help, call Enabill. They are very helpful and can research the charge AND put a block on all 3rd party billing through THEIR system. here are their numbers depending on which billing code was used (depends on service purchased):
    (800) 460-0756 for ZPDI
    (800) 460-0556 for USBI
    (800) 460-0078 for ESBI
    (800) 604-4653 for HBS
    (800) 944-9646 for ACI/OAN

  132. Billy Carter says:

$20.00 charge from Headwind Media. Called and was told a credit would be provided within 1 to 2 billing cycles. Said my wife signed up for a 3 month contract service which she did not, so this is not approved. Something needs to be done with this and the FCC for allowing this to happen on our utility bill. Tried calling AT&T was on hold for 25 minutes never spoke to anyone. So mailed bill in to the address where disputes are sent with a note saying I was not paying this and also needed credit for any taxes they charged..

  133. james says:

was billed 20 dollars they said my daughter signed up but had her maiden name and wrong address

  134. Christa says:

i also found a $20.00 charge from AT&T for something i never heard of. They said i signed a 3mo Contract and i had verified 3 times. I am livid and im calling them back and demanding they refund my $20 and that i am filing a lawsuit against them!

I was billed $20 on my Quest bill. Called this company and they said they signed me to a 3 month contract. They had a false yahoo account of my brother’s that doesn’t exist!! I demanded a refund and to cancel that false contract. They did after I nearly screamed at her and asked for a supervisor. There was no supervisor I’m sure! I’m contacting the better business bureau for sure. I contacted Quest and they put a 3rd party block on my bill. They need to be shut down ASAP!!!!!! I’m livid

  137. Hafeez Uqdah says:

I was billed for $20.00 for Headwind Media, Inc. for something I did’nt join. I am not paying the $20.00 for something I don’t owe that was charged to my at&t phone bill.

  138. Ellen says:

I too have an unauthorized $20 monthly service fee from Headwind Media on my Qwest bill this month. Qwest has now blocked charges from this company on my future bills, but I am worried that this alone may not be enough to stop this rip off venture.

  139. J. Glewwe says:

As Power of Attorney and daughter for my father, I discovered on my father’s phone bill, charges of 20.00 for the past 2 months designated as ENABILL. My father is an invalid and rarely uses his phone, nor does he own a computer and thus does not utilize any Internet services. He also does not order merchandise over the phone being physically incapable of such. I have sent written correspondence to United Tel and Qwest demanding a cease and desist for all such billing and a credit for all charges made.

I have also filed a complaint with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office.

  140. Donna Oates says:

Just opened up my Verizon bill once again I have a charge I know nothing about. This time it is for 20.00 from Headwind Media. I just had a 14.95 charge taken off in Jan. from some unknown source. I am about to have my phone turned off. When does this stop.

  141. Linda in NJ says:

I was hit with Headwind in December and January. Now I got an email from another one: Bill by Phone, which apparently is a voicemail service. This one is $14.95 per month. At least this company sent me an email to tell me about my enrollment! In any case, I certainly did not enroll in this. I have posted this before, and will say it one more time: PLEASE file a complaint with the FTC on-line. It takes 5 minutes. They need to hear from lots of us! (This doesn’t fall under FCC jurisdiction.) Here is the website for the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and click on the big brown box in the upper right area that says FTC Complaint Assistant. Thanks!

  142. Dr. J says:

I was charged $20 by this company on my phone bill. They said the charge was made on Jan 2 but my wife and I were 1200 miles away on that date. I had to argue with some slug at the company telling him I had never heard of the company and did not subscribe to these services. He finally cancelled the subcription then had the gull to offer me a free 1 month subscription. I decline and laughed.

  143. Brett Cook says:

It’s now month two and the charge is still there. I called last month and Headwind agreed to cancel the bill, saying it would be 1-2 billing cycles. I then called Qwest who said they wouldn’t ding my credit for not paying. I then called the state Attorney General, who is persuing this.
The $20 is on this months bill also. I called Qwest and they agreed to block that particular service from being billed in the future, but said they were required by the Pub. Util. Comm to apply the charges from Headwind. That is in violation of CFR 310.4, section (a)(6) which says:

I’m next calling the Public Utility Commission and the Federal Trade Commission. Wish me luck!

  144. Rhonda says:

Hello! To the people that filed with the FTC, what category did you select? Did you pick the identity theft one and then select for telephone usage without permission? Thanks!

  145. Christy says:

Didn’t authorize/register for a service now a mysterious $20.00 charge on phone bill. AT&T agreed to block third party but refuses to remove $20.00 fee and this happened a couple months ago as well. If you put a block on isn’t that suppose to fix this from happening again?

  146. Blacita says:

Got charged $20. on my phone bill by Enabill for services from Headwind Media. I called Headwind got them to cancel charges and account.Filed a complaint with the Oregon State Attorney General’s office and the Better Business Bureau. If nothing happens, they’ll hear from me again

  147. Brett says:

The AZ Attorney General’s office is working on this issue, but told me that one single complaint might not get very far. I urge everyone to file a complaint with their state AG, the FTC, and the FCC. It takes a lot of voices to get anything changed.

  148. Marcine Mullett says:

I am being charged $20 for 2 months now on my telephone bill and i do not know who the hell this Co. is!

  149. Tom Taylor says:

This is the second time unauthorized billing has been on my phone bill. Last time I got ahold of the state agency dealing with public utilities. Thanks,
    Tom

  150. Linda in NJ says:

Just got my FOURTH unauthorized charge. This time Billviaphone.com for $14.95. I had already spoken to Verizon on 6/22/09, 1/4/10, and again on 1/22/10 when previous unathorized charges appeared, and I was told each time that a “block” had been placed on my number to prevent this from happening. Today, the Verizon rep told me she did not see that the “block” order had ever been completed. So once again, Verizon is telling me they will block this from happening again. I am ridiculously frustrated, both with companies that fraudulently put charges on my bill, and with Verizon’s incompetence in stopping them. I guess I will file yet another FTC complaint…

  151. Debbie says:

This is my second billing from enabill. I called to tell them to remove me but I keep on getting billed for it.

  152. Diana in Phoenix AZ says:

I got the $20 chanrge on my Quest bill from Headwind Media. I called them and they told me I ordered the serivce by accessing their website and I told them to cancel it and block any future charges. I did not order this. I called Qwest and requested they block any future 3rd party charges and they told me they can not do that. They did say however they would creidt me $20.00. The gal at Qwest said shes “never heard of this company before”.

  153. Alfred McClinton says:

I am a AT&T customer with billing from HEADWIND for $20.00. what kind of co.is at t to authorize other bills.i don’t know this company

  154. Radeena says:

A $20 charge started showing up on our phone bill. It wasn’t authorized by us, the account holders.

  155. Amy Flanigan-Zadra says:

I set up my bank account in advance to pay my qwest bill every month. As we do not use long distance or other services I dont look at the statement and pay the pre-arranged amount. Recently I received a shut off notice even though I pay my bill each month. As I looked at the online qwest bill it $20 per month has been added to my account through headwest enibill. I do not know who this is or understand how this could be charged without my permission. Very upset and considering to drop qwest all together for this.

  156. John Chagoya says:

I just found out today that I have been getting billed $14.95 a month for the past 9 months along with my phone bill from AT&T,their customer service rep informed me of it today as I wanted to make some changes on my phone service.Lets not let them get away with this!!!!

  157. Karen says:

A $20 charge from Headwind Media showed up on my Jan. bill. I called the no. and was told my husband signed up for it. It has something to do with the stars. Told them to cancel so will see what happens. Not something either I or my husband would have any interest in.

  158. Gadiza says:

If you did not order it! THEN DO NOT PAY FOR IT! JUST PAY FOR CURRENT PHONE CHARGES, take note they will also write in there PAST DUE CHARGES that was what I did not pay last month too! I am no longer paying what I did not buy. We need to stop being a victim.

  159. Melissa says:

I just noticed today after looking at my Qwest bill closely that I have been charged at least 40.00 from Headwind Media. I definitely did not sign up for this. I cannot afford to pay for this, and it makes me angry someone can bill me for something I did not and do not and will never want. I will be calling Qwest, the phone numbers listed here by others, the BBB, etc.

  160. samantha weaver says:

  162. marty evans says:

I have internet service with a phone number,”Calls come in ,but why can’t I call out”.

  163. marty evans says:

I mean,”A call on the phone comes in but can’t call out.”

  164. Sherry Johnson says:

I recently discovered that my phone bill has steadily been going up over the past few months. Upon researching my bill I found that I have unauthorized charges from USBI. I spoke to an AT&T agent who tried to assist me in getting in touch with USBI but she was hung up on 4 times. I called several times myself and after the automated prompt ended the phone disconnected. I am not able to contact USBI and can’t pull up their website to notify them of the fact that I did not request nor do I want their service. After reading over the complaint section on the TPUC’s website it states that you have to contact the company first. I called AT&T back and did receive a credit on my bill for the last 4 months but have since discovered that this goes back to October of last year.
