I feel lucky I caught this in their first attempt to charge me. I haven’t paid the bill yet, what should I do?
I googled the company name and all the results that have popped up that I have seen so far have to do with fraudulent billing charges.

I receive my AT&T phone bill through email. I had not looked at my complete bill for several months. I looked at my bill online in August 2010. I noticed a “other companies billing”. At the top of the page Enhanced Services Billing, Inc was listed. The charges were billed on behalf of First Rate Voice Services, Inc. The billing question number was 1-866-568-6385. I called this number to find out what this bill was for. The lady told me it was for some kind of texting service. I told the lady that I do not even have a cell phone, so why would I need a texting service. She told me someone named Jamie ordered this service. I told her I did not know who she was talking about and that no one other than myself or husband had authority to order something and charge it to my phone. She apologized and said she would credit the charges of $207.85. She gave me confirmation # of 7357628 and told me if had any further questions to mail support@firstrate.com. I was given a credit for the $207.85. AT&T did not notify me that I had been given a credit and sent me a bill via email in September 2010 for $103.73 and October 2010 for $117.54. These amounts were supposed to be credits but I was billed instead. I sent emails to support@firstrate.com and could not get a response. Finally, yesterday I found out that a company by the name of First Rate Investment Systems, Arlington TX had the email: support@firstrate.com. Understandably this company was upset that an unscrupulous company had fraudulently given this email
address out. A man by the name of Jeremy Thomas from First Rate Investment Systems sent me the following email links about First Rate Services: http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/first-rate-voice-service-c77685.html,

First Rate Voice Services needs to checked out and I feel that AT&T needs to be also for billing for this company. I cannot believe that AT&T would not charge something for this service
First Rate Voice Services needs to be checked out and I think ATT&T does also for billing for this company. I feel sure that ATT&T di not do this service for free.

As we only use our line for DSL internet and the bill is always the same, this charge stood out last October for $14.95. We called Embarq who referred us to ESBI, then were connected with First Rate Voice services. We told the operator there that this was an unauthorized charge and they apologized, and removed it. Later, in December, the charge appeared on our bill yet again, and after calling ESBI again, we were given the number to First Rate, which turned out to be no longer in service. We called ESBI back, and after they apologized (not voluntarily) they said they would credit it!?! They stated that it would take 3 to 4 billing cycles to return as a credit(although it only took a week for them to charge it) so we are waiting to see. I believe that someone with a variable charged bill such as added long distance might not notice this a quickly as we did since ours is just a line rate, and feel this crank scammer is just playing the odds and stealing as much as possible…and definitely needs to be stopped.

Centruy Link allows this 3rd party billing to. In order to stop FRF from unauthorized billing on my phone accounty, they tried to charge me $3.95/mo. I’m reporting both companies to the BBB and all of you should too. Here’s the link: https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/EnterBusiness.aspx?ComplaintID=2&country=UNITED%20STATES&zipcode=32327&mil=-1

I noticed on my phone bill today a charge for $14.95. I called the # provided on the bill…1-866-568-6385. A lady at that # said if was for faxing over the internet and voice mail services. I said I never order this service. She told I did this on line. I told her I didn’t. She said this was done May 11,2011. I told her again I have no reason to fax and I have an answer machine don’t need nor ever wanted their service. She said she would credit my account for $44.85 plus taxes but it wouldn’t show up until my Sept bill.

I use AT&T and have for 15+ years. I only used my land line for professional contact calls only (meaning I never used my phone) for resumes, credit cards etc. Anyway, I noticed that my phone bill was rather high and decided i was going to just cancel the land line all together. So i went on line and found the number to AT&T to call and cancel, but then for the first time in i guess almost 4 years i looked at my phone bill and noticed this additional charge for this company called First Rate Voice Services…..for $12.95 WTF?? I was horrified to say the least. Called the number and spoke to one person and was transfered to another til the phone died. Called back, spoke with this woman who was not forthcoming with information about this company and when i told her i wanted this to come off my bill I was told I would have to WAIT for two cycles (whatever that means) and that i would be refunded the 12.95 from the first start of the charges. It turnes out to be roughly over $595 plus taxes. I was told that the refund would go to AT&T first in two separate payments and it was up to me to contact AT&T to ask for the refund! REALLY??? When asked how this got on my phone bill in the first place i was told, “it must have been something you signed up for on-line.” REALLY???
That was the end of October….Guess what, I just got my Dec bill and guess who just got billed another 12.95? Any guesses? How can AT&T get away with this and not be found liable for this? If they do this class action what would happen and how much money would we get for this? I’m FURIOUS!

One year ago we bundled our DSL, phone and Direct TV together and this is apparently when I started getting charged this fee of $14.95. I didn’t question it because I thought that it was part of my bundle. But this month my AT&T bill went up $30 so I called this company and complained. They canceled my service and credited me back some of the money and told me that I would have to e-mail them with to get anything else. So now I am waiting for a response, supposedly 24-48 business hours. We’ll see.
