What Is A Qui Tam Lawsuit?

Qui tam is short for “qui tam pro domino rege quam pro se ipso in hac parte sequitur,” which means “who pursues this action on our Lord the King’s behalf as well as his own.”

A qui tam lawsuit, also known as a whistleblower lawsuit, is an action brought under a federal, state or local False Claims Act by a private plaintiff on behalf of the respective federal, state or local government (rather than by the government itself).

Qui tam statutes date back to 13th century England and were actions that allowed private parties to allege the King’s interest and gain access to the Royal Courts.

If you have knowledge about a company or entity that committed fraud against a federal, state or local government or agency and improperly obtained money from the government (or was improperly relieved from paying money to the government), tell us your qui tam story!
