What Is A Whistleblower?

Whistleblower Defined

A whistleblower is a private person with knowledge of fraud committed against the federal, state or local government by companies, individuals or other entities and who comes forward with such information or evidence by bringing a whistleblower or qui tam lawsuit pursuant to a federal, state or local false claims act on behalf of the government and who receives a portion — which could be up to 30% — of the government’s recovery from the lawsuit.

The term “whistleblower” comes from the practice of English bobbies who would literally “blow their whistle” when they noticed the commission of a crime. The blowing of the whistle would alert both law enforcement officers and the general public of danger.

If you have knowledge about a company or entity that committed fraud against a federal, state or local government or agency and improperly obtained money from the government (or was improperly relieved from paying money to the government), tell us your whistleblower story!

In the last two decades, qui tam plaintiffs (i.e., relators) and whistleblowers bringing successful false claims act lawsuits have recovered qui tam and false claims act awards of over $2 billion dollars.
